In the St. Catherine chapel of the Peter and Paul Cathedral is the burial site for the family of Nicholas II, the last tsar of Russia, with a monument and a plaque for each member of the family. Nicholas II ruled 1894-1917, during the time when Mendeleev was Director of the Bureau of Weights and Measures and when Mendeleev died in 1907. The plaques (left to right) remember Alexei, Olga, Tatiana, the Tsar, the Tsarina, Maria, and Anatasia. The remains of the family has only recently been exhumed from a field near Ekaterinburg where they were buried after their assassination in 1918. {LINK: Ekatberezov300}.
